In November 2015, Ang Mo Kio Secondary School and Nan Hua High became the first schools in Singapore to achieve the coveted Green Flag award for environmental education under WWF Eco-Schools programme. Commonwealth Secondary joined this progressive group in 2016.
These three schools are the leaders among a growing number of schools that are forward-looking. Eco-Schools are progressive in their focus of supporting the young to establish a Sustainable Value System
and develop 21st Century Life Skills
. The Eco Schools programme is recognised internationally by the UNEP to be the global model for education in sustainable development. Singapore has seen a growth in WWF Eco-Schools starting with 8 schools in 2013 and reaching 50 schools in 2016. A total of 25 schools in Singapore have marked their sustainability journey through Eco-School programme and awards.
WWF Singapore recognizes the key role children and youths have to play in shaping tomorrow's world. The Eco-Schools programme equips them with the 21st century skills and knowledge they need to be responsible future citizens of our planet and to confidently tackle environmental challenges that lie ahead.
