Darel is a visual storyteller who illustrates the tales of the natural world through his unique brand of wry wit and whimsy. An illustration graduate from Central Saint Martins, he believes in the draw of storytelling as a means of engagement. Fascinated by the narratives in nature and culture, he enjoys working with museums and cultural institutions worldwide like the British Museum, Singapore Botanic Gardens and the Asian Civilisations Museum.
His multi-disciplinary practice is centred on man’s changing relationship with nature, in which he explores learning through the power of storytelling, imagination and play. These come to life through his works spanning public art, interactive experiences and his most recent book, Marvellous Mammals: An ABC of Southeast Asia, which tell and re-tell uniquely Singaporean stories.
