It’s time to unleash your creativity and bring your sustainability message to life through digital storytelling!
In this module, you’ll explore how to craft meaningful content across different formats, whether through video, writing, or illustration. You’ll also learn how to simplify complex ideas, build emotional connection, and spark action with your story.
To guide you, we’ve brought together three inspiring storytellers from Singapore who’ve mastered the art of turning information into impact:
🎥 Kong Man Jing (BioGirl MJ) is the co-founder of Just Keep Thinking, a wildly popular science communication platform reaching 3–5 million viewers monthly. With a background in environmental biology and teaching, MJ blends education with entertainment to make science accessible through viral videos, comic books, eco-learning tours, and even a decommissioned train turned into a sustainability hub!
🖍️ Darel Seow is an illustrator and visual storyteller whose nature-inspired artwork has been featured by institutions like the British Museum and Singapore Botanic Gardens. Through storytelling, imagination, and play, Darel invites people to rethink their relationship with nature, one drawing at a time.
📝 Wei Qian is a bilingual journalist at Lianhe Zaobao who explores the intersection of people and the planet. Passionate about interdisciplinary thinking, he uses writing to unpack the cultural, economic, and political layers of sustainability and to create conversations that resonate with youth.
Whether you’re scripting a video, sketching an idea, or writing a story this module will give you the tools to make your campaign message go viral, for the right cause.

- Understand the foundations of impactful digital storytelling for sustainability.
- Apply two content formats of your choosing: video, writing, or illustration in order to develop campaign content.
- Simplify science and sustainability topics for wider public audiences using your own creative lens.
- Break down storytelling into clear steps: ideation → storyboarding → creation → editing → posting.
- Explore how short-form content can condense key messages without losing meaning.
Key Takeaways:
- Effective content starts with clarity: Make complex topics relatable by focusing on relevance and audience needs.
- You don’t need to do it all: Choose the format that best suits your skills and message. Focus, then refine.
- Science can be fun: Infuse your storytelling with curiosity, humour, and real-life examples, as shown by MJ’s viral approach.
- Structure matters: Great content follows a clear flow, idea, storyboard, shoot or draft, refine, and publish.
- Bite-sized ≠ shallow: Learn how to say more with less, especially in today’s fast-scrolling, short-form world.
