I.    About World Wide Fund for Nature, Singapore (WWF)

WWF-Singapore is a Singapore-registered charity, part of WWF International – one of the world’s largest  and most respected independent conservation organisations. We protect critical resources for people in  Singapore by driving change across government, business, civil society and local communities. To meet  key Singapore and around the region. As one of WWF’s global hubs, WWF-Singapore supports a global  conservation goals, we address issues such as deforestation, haze pollution, seafood sustainability and  illegal wildlife trade in network that spans over 100 countries.  

Major Functions:

  • Manage the development and implementation of the WWF-Singapore Market Strategy linked to the Global Practices and WWF-Singapore’s strategy. 

  • Secure, build and maintain meaningful transformational partnerships with the private sector in regards to commodities inclusive of but not limited to palm oil, plastics, and sustainable seafood.

  • Devise and execute market transformation strategies to shift the private sector towards sustainable solutions and options.

  • Advise other WWF-Singapore conservation and communication staff on effective approaches to influence the private sector.   

 

III. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate WWFS sustainable seafood, pulp and paper and palm oil procurement and plastic programs in Singapore with the private and public sectors.   

  • Responsible for technical expertise on market transformation in engagement with the private sector.   

  • Develop and expand cooperation with national and regional palm oil/seafood and ocean partners’ platforms, MSC and RSPO, NGOs, international organizations, business and other stakeholders in the region so as to promote and leverage WWF’s strategy.  

  • Manage and expand the Plastic ACTion (PACT) initiative in Singapore according to the global program No Plastic in Nature 2030 by providing businesses with the expert guidance and incentives to reduce plastic consumption and a circular economy as outlined by the initiative.

  • Lead partnerships which focus on transformative ambitions to address sustainability and collaborative partnerships to transform the industries of interest.  

  • Lead and design selective projects, manage third-party consultants, produce cutting-edge reports on commodities (plastic, seafood, palm oil and pulp and paper), including the development of business case studies for our partners.

  • Represent WWF-Singapore externally in private sector events/process and in key WWF Network bodies.  

  • Manage the secretariat of SASPO, coordinate and execute outreach and acquisition to grow the number of corporate partner sourcing certified sustainable palm oil. 

  • Lead and drive the development of the Responsible Seafood Tool (RESET) and manage corporate partnerships in regards to responsible seafood.   

 

 

IV. Profile:

Required Qualifications:        

  • Relevant Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, corporate sustainability, environmental sciences or other relevant areas.  

  • At least 5 years relevant professional experience in corporate and/or sustainability;

  • Demonstrated deep expertise and leadership in market, corporate internal operations, corporate sustainability/responsibility, sustainable development and environmental science.

  • Ability to analyse sustainability issues and to effectively communicate these to the stakeholders and partners; and 

  • Experience in sustainable supply chain management, procurement, corporate internal operations are assets.    

    
Required Skills and Competencies 

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and team building skills.

  • Ability to work in a networked environment (such as the WWF Network), with a proven capacity to define and defend priorities.

  • Proven record of self-motivation, results delivery, working independently as well as adept at project and budget management.

  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.

  • Dynamic, creative and outgoing personality with a commitment to nature conservation.

  • Effective computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, on the web and social media.

  • Experience developing, implementing and managing business partnerships/corporate engagement strategies.

  • A knowledge of sustainable business practices, preferably with experience in working with the supply chains of retailers and major brands.

  • Networking, influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with an ability to build strategic relationships at a senior level.

V. Working Relationships: 

Internal - The successful candidate will work in the Strategic Communication and External Relations Team of WWFS, very closely with the Senior Manager of Regional Market Transformation, with WWF Singapore staff, and with a wider range of programs and initiatives in the WWF Asia Pacific region and even the global network.   

External - Works with national authorities, academic institutions, NGOs, international organizations, businesses and other stakeholders in Singapore.
