Over 10,000 Singaporeans join the WWF Earth Hour Festival weekend 2023 at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay

• First such in-person Earth Hour event by WWF-Singapore after a 3 year hiatus 
• Esplanade joins as Festival Partner to engage Singaporeans with messages of a more sustainable future

SINGAPORE, 25 MARCH 2023 – Between 24^th – 26^th March 2023, over 10,000 people in Singapore will come together for WWF-Singapore’s (World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore) Earth Hour Festival at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay.

A robust schedule of thematic art performances, educational booths around climate change, and talks by WWF-Singapore’s subject matter experts culminated in the symbolic 1-hour Switch Off at 8:30PM SGT on Saturday 25^th March. This year, the likes of FairPrice Group, CapitaLand, Fullerton Hotel, and ORBA (Orchard Road Business Association) joined iconic landmarks like Esplanade, Jewel Changi Airport, ION Orchard and Marina Bay Sands, to switch off in support.

Senior Minister of State, Ms Sim Ann, who led the countdown to the Switch Off, said, “It is specially meaningful because the intention is to raise awareness. It is something where building owners, as well as the people who do businesses and work in the buildings can come together and focus our minds on the importance of honouring our climate targets.”

Amidst increased national pressure on Singapore’s climate goals to hit Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, WWF-Singapore is encouraging people to think Beyond The Hour. This year, the team hopes to transition the Earth Hour movement from advocacy to action, making a call to businesses and establishments to move their air conditioning temperature to 25 degrees Celsius.

WWF-Singapore’s Kosong Plan encourages small, actionable changes in daily life – such as reducing personal usage of single-use plastics, consuming more sustainably farmed seafood and produce, or choosing eco-friendly alternatives to e-commerce packaging when shopping online. Pledges can be made here and throughout the year, pledgers will be given updates and actionable tips on how to achieve their Kosong Plan goals.
