Schools for Climate Action

The Schools for Climate Action project equips students to learn and apply the concept of calculating their school’s carbon footprint. They then work together to formulate an action plan that will be implemented in their school to reduce emissions.

This project provides a real world opportunity for Singapore’s youths to take climate action, learn skills and apply techniques that positively influence values of their community.

Objectives

  • Build understanding on climate change within the school community.
  • Gain insights on key factors that contribute to carbon footprint.
  • Involve the school community in reducing the school’s carbon footprint.
 
Project Format
  • Six one-hour workshops
  • Workshops can be conducted in-person or virtually
 
Target Audience
  • Primary and Secondary School (10 to 17 years old)

Project Outline
Workshop 1
  • Establishing the purpose and objectives of the project
  • How does climate change occur
Workshop 2
  • Understand how carbon causes climate change
  • Explore the impacts of climate change
Workshop 3
  • Use a carbon calculator to determine the school’s carbon footprint
Workshop 4
  • Develop action plans to reduce the carbon footprint in their school
Workshop 5
  • Presentation of action plan 
Workshop 6 (1.5 – 2 months after Workshop 5)
  • Key learnings from the project & feedback
