Emilia Layther, 7, walked into WWF Singapore with her father on 27 September 2006. She had in hand, a heavy bag of coins that she wanted to donate to WWF. The donation amounted to SGD$143.35 and about 157 other coins in various foreign currencies.
Emilia might just be the spokesperson for the youth of today who are getting more environmentally conscious and socially responsible. We thank her and her parents for their generosity and their touching effort in bringing the donation personally to our office. We hope that this is the beginning to a new generation of responsible adults and children alike; working together towards One Planet Living and sustainable lifestyles for the precious Earth that we share.
WWF Singapore is currently working to provide more opportunities for students to be active in conservation initiatives through our Education and Outreach programmes. We hope to create a greater sense of awareness and responsibility among the youth on conservation and sustainable living.
A sponsored screening of An Inconvenient Truth, a film directed by Davis Guggenheim, will take place later this month for 600 secondary school students selected in Singapore.
