Working Together with Asian Tigers Group to Increase Protection and Tiger Population

In October 2023, Asian Tigers Group renewed its partnership with WWF for another three years, becoming one of the longest-running partners of WWF-Singapore. The partnership aims to support WWF’s conservation efforts in stabilising and increasing the number of wild tigers in 22 landscapes across Asia.

Since the beginning of our partnership, the collective support from Asian Tigers Group and other partners has enabled tiger-range countries to mitigate poaching through the implementation of SMART technology in 67 tiger sites across 10 countries to prevent snares from wiping out tigers from the Malaysian rainforests and reducing snare encounter rates by 90%. It has also contributed in empowering rangers in Cambodia’s Eastern Plains Landscape (EPL) to strengthen patrol effectiveness and efficiency.

The loss of tigers in Southeast Asia to snares has numerous consequences, from the reduced economic potential and investments, degradation of ecosystem services, along with cultural impacts. To find out more about the region’s snaring crisis, download the full report here.

Even as tiger numbers increase, continued support is required to ensure strategic use of investments and the development of a wider landscape engagement plan. Contribution from Asian Tigers Group will be channeled to aid in strengthening conservation efforts in Peninsular Malaysia—ensuring patrol teams are equipped with the skills and tools to monitor tiger populations, remove snares and prevent poaching. These efforts are critical to increase the population of tigers in Belum-Temenggor to at least 80 individuals by 2030. This will benefit not only the protected species but also local communities and indigenous peoples, providing the best chance for tiger recovery.

“Asian Tigers Group’s commitment  to safeguard tiger populations and their habitats shines through its unwavering support for WWF’s conservation efforts. We value our partnership and aspire to ignite a movement, inspiring others to join us in driving transformative change for these majestic creatures and their ecosystems.” — Mayj Tolentino, Director of Growth and Partnerships, WWF-Singapore.

The International Moving and Relocation Company Behind the Tiger Logo

Founded in 1998, the Asian Tigers Group is a leading provider of international moving and relocation services with over 45 years of experience and 25 offices in 14 territories throughout Asia. Several of those countries have, or have had, native tiger populations, inspiring the Group to support WWF’s initiative to save the species.

“This partnership with WWF is an excellent opportunity to enable the Tiger Action Fund to have an even greater impact.  We are confident that by combining our resources and talents, we can provide a boost to the TX2 goal of doubling wild tigers.  As we share the same values and commitment to a healthy planet for wildlife and people, it was a natural fit between Asian Tigers Group and WWF.”—Gordon Bell, Chairman, Asian Tigers Group.

Asian Tigers Group established the Tiger Action Fund in 2001 to achieve environmental sustainability by channeling funds to support global efforts, including relevant projects and research to drive nature preservation and wildlife protection.

Since 2017, it has been extended to WWF-Singapore to support tiger conservation work, including anti-poaching efforts, research and policy advocacy, and communications support. In the long term, these measures will inspire collective action across the globe to protect Asia’s wild tigers and catalyse impactful legislative change.
