ADDRESSING ENERGY POVERTY

Lack of access to safe and reliable energy in remote places around Southeast Asia plunges children and families into darkness nightly, posing significant challenges to education, health, and well-being.

The cycle of energy poverty vividly illustrates the challenges faced by our children and their families. This is why we need more people, like you, to break this cycle and provide a brighter future for generations to come.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected.

ENERGY POVERTY CYCLE BELOW

LET’S CREATE IMPACT TOGETHER!

SWITCH ON!

Imagine a place where over 45 million people are left in the dark every single night. This extreme lack of access to reliable energy sources keeps millions trapped in a cycle of poverty, affecting their health and limiting their opportunities for a better future.

We’re here to make a change!

TAKE ACTION

POWER UP

This Solar Light Campaign is a collaborative effort between WWF-Singapore and SolarBuddy.

Our mission is clear:

Frequently asked questions

1. What can you tell me about the light design?

The solar light has been designed with purpose and has been specifically designed to be both informative and practical. Participating in a hands-on activity that has a real-life impact, will help give you a better understanding of energy poverty. It will also provide you with a sense of connection with the children and communities who will receive your gift of light.

The solar light has been constructed from high UV resistant plastic and encased in a tough rubber bumper to protect against accidental damage. SolarBuddy LED lights are made with a 0.6W solar panel and provide eight hours of light on full and 16 hours of light on half beam.

2. What can you tell me about your manufacturing partners?

As a supplier to the United Nations (UN) all manufacturing partners are annually inspected by the UN to ensure they meet compliance requirements and have all the relevant certification in place.

3. Do the batteries expire?

SolarBuddy batteries recharge 500 times, resulting in a lifespan of 2.5 years. As the only major depleting part of the light, SolarBuddy is committed to changing the batteries three times, every 2.5 years, resulting in the light lasting a child 10 years taking them right through their school years.

4. How can we be sure that this project is not just creating more trash?

SolarBuddy lights have been designed to withstand the harsh conditions they are used in. The lights are supported by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Australian Aid who also value sustainable design and avoiding waste.

Light up the world,
make a difference!
