Using its influence as a clothing retailer to help reduce the environmental impact of overconsumption, Wing Tai Retail Management launched the Repurpose Fashion initiative on 30 March 2019 where customers can drop off their pre-loved clothes in collecting boxes at all standalone wt+ stores such as Dorothy Perkins, FOX Kids & Baby, G2000, Karen Millen, Topshop, Topman and Warehouse.

The garments collected will be sorted into different types and categories. The two main categories are:

Reuse:

– Good quality recyclables are sold to second-hand textiles importers (e.g. thrift shops, 2nd-hand market) in the developing countries so as to enable the less fortunate to purchase clothes, shoes, etc at an affordable price.

Recycle:

– Garments that cannot be reused will be recycled and sold as industrial cleaning cloth (e.g. for automobile, shipyard, etc) depending on the material of the textiles. The usage is for cleaning lubricants.

This initiative aims to raise consumer awareness in new ways by helping to repurpose used garments, reducing textile waste and contributing towards a circular economy.

Full proceeds from this initiative will be donated to support WWF-Singapore’s festival for nature, Earth Hour.

Visit the wt+ website to learn more about the initiative here.

Support the Plastic ACTion (PACT) initiative to take bold plastic action

As part of Plastic ACTion (PACT), a voluntary business initiative for business solutions on plastic reduction, Wing Tai Retail Management will also be implementing a shopping bag charge of S$0.10 for each plastic and paper bag at more than 40 outlets under the G2000, Topshop, Topman, FOX Kids & Baby, Dorothy Perkins and Cath Kidston brands.

This approach will help encourage customers to reduce the use of single-use disposables and consume sustainably.

Full proceeds from the charge will be donated to WWF-Singapore to support its conservation initiatives.
