Earth Hour 2013: Back with a bang on 23 March 2013!

January 9, 2013

In 2012, Earth Hour saw:

More than 6,000 people
at Orchard Road for the official Lights-Off event;
Over 400 organisations engaging customers and staff in support of the environment;
A “60+ Singapore” human formation made by 1,500 people for Earth Hour;
10,000 challenges logged for the “I Will If You Will” campaign;

One yoga class, conducted by Miranda Kerr, Earth Hour global ambassador and international supermodel,
as fulfillment of her “I Will If You Will” (IWIYW) challenge, when 500 fans uploaded their own IWIYW challenges on Earth Hour’s YouTube channel.

With the move of the Earth Hour global team to Singapore in July 2012, the world’s largest ground-up environmental movement promises to be bigger and better in 2013!

Mark your calendar for Earth Hour 2013 as we gear up for the official Lights-Off event on Saturday, 23 March 2013, 8.30 – 9.30pm! The IWIYW campaign theme will also return in 2013, encouraging the Singapore public to make bigger strides towards environmental protection, by pledging to take action for our planet beyond Earth Hour.

To help you become a stronger and better ambassador for Earth Hour beyond the hour, the all new Earth Hour Action Kit (on http://earthhour.wwf.sg) will provide comprehensive guidelines and useful resources for organisations to create their own celebration and take up IWIYW challenges. Organisations can also begin to pledge their participation in Earth Hour 2013 on http://earthhour.wwf.sg.

Mark your calendar. Own a challenge. Be part of the global movement for the protection of our planet today!

Earth Hour 2013 is made possible with the support of Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) as the Official Venue Partner for the Lights-Off event to be held at Marina Bay Singapore as well as partners – Leo Burnett, Mindshare and Weber Shandwick.

About Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a global initiative led by WWF. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour on 23 March 2013, Saturday, at 8.30pm to show their support for environmentally sustainable action. The event began in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, when two million people switched off their lights. By 2011, Earth Hour had created history as the largest voluntary action ever witnessed with participation across 135 countries, including the world’s most recognised man-made marvels and natural wonders in a landmark environmental action. It also marked the start of something new – going Beyond the Hour – to commit to lasting action on climate change.

About WWF

WWF – World Wide Fund for Nature, is one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organisations, with almost five million supporters and a global network active in more than 100 countries. WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by conserving the world’s biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
