SINGAPORE, 12 March 2024 –WWF-Singapore (World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore) announces Earth Hour Festival at Wisma Atria Singapore on Saturday, 23 March 2024. The event encourages climate resilience through community engagement, featuring a symbolic Switch Off moment and a curated suite of  climate-conscious activities such as art performances, educational stations, and expert talks. It aims to unite individuals and businesses in protecting the planet, inspiring collective action. At the heart of WWF-Singapore’s Earth Hour Festival is a keen desire to engage individuals to contribute hours to WWF’s global effort, ‘Hour Bank’—a tally of planet-positive actions pledged for Earth Hour this year.

Moving “Beyond the Hour,” WWF-Singapore encourages participants to embrace lasting change by integrating eco-conscious practices into their daily lives, from reducing single-use plastics to adopting sustainable consumption habits.

“This Earth Hour, WWF-Singapore celebrates the everyday actions of individuals, families and the wider community in tackling climate change. We hope that more Singaporeans will join this year’s Earth Hour Festival to signal our collective resolve to create a meaningful impact at home and beyond, and tap into the global Hour Bank to amplify the significance of each of our actions. I thank our partners and supporters for joining us in this movement  towards Singapore’s Net Zero goals. “, said Mr. Vivek Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, WWF-Singapore.

“We are immensely proud to be WWF’s first Earth Hour International Partner for this year’s Earth Hour. Our partnership underscores the vital importance of stakeholder engagement in driving meaningful climate action. The education and engagement of individuals and organisations are critical in our efforts to create a more sustainable future for our planet.”, Mr. Siew Jin Kiat, Regional Managing Director of Epson Southeast Asia

Symbolic Switch Off, 8.30pm – 9.30pmThe highlight of the festival will be the symbolic Switch Off ceremony, at 8:30 pm. In 2023 over 10,000 individuals and businesses participated in this symbolic act at the Earth Hour Festival. This year, festival-goers are set to experience an electrifying celebration of the outdoor atrium at Wisma Atria as it transforms into a dazzling spectacle, marking a shared dedication to a climate-resilient future. Hosted by a local celebrity, the evening will feature special guest performances by WWF’s Eco-Schools, Damaru Singapore, Green Drummers and Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS), as the lights dim across Orchard Road for this iconic moment.

About Earth Hour
Earth Hour is WWF’s flagship global environmental movement. Born in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to become one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment, inspiring individuals, communities, businesses and organisations in more than 180 countries and territories to take tangible environmental action for over a decade. Historically, Earth Hour has focused on the climate crisis, but more recently, Earth Hour has strived to also bring the pressing issue of nature loss to the fore. The aim is to create an unstoppable movement for nature, as it did when the world came together to tackle climate change. The movement recognises the role of individuals in creating solutions to the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges and harnesses the collective power of its millions of supporters to drive change.

About WWF-Singapore

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organisations. WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the earth’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. As one of WWF’s international hubs, WWF-Singapore supports a global network spanning over 100 countries.

WWF-Singapore works closely with local stakeholders towards a greener and more sustainable Singapore and the region around us. We work to address key conservation areas, such as deforestation, illegal wildlife trade, oceans, food security, sustainable finance and sustainable consumption through education and outreach efforts with individuals, businesses and governments.
